Birge recognized for conservation district efforts

Mike Birge was recognized as Supervisor of the Year for Area V when the Alabama Association of Conservation Districts held its annual Area V meeting in August. Area V includes Barbour, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Pike, and Russell counties.

Birge has served on the Board of Supervisors for seven years, is chairman on the Area V AACD, and attends both local and state meetings. He recently represented Area V at the National Association of Conservation Districts Southeast Regional Meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Birge is a firm supporter and advocate of conservation. He is very conscientious and works hard at promoting the objectives of conservation districts. He is a district representative on the Wiregrass RC&D Council and serves as vice-chairman on the RC&D executive committee. He assists the education specialist in the schools presenting the Edible Aquifer Activity and judging poster contests.

He has been married to Debbie Geoghagan for 46 years and they have two daughters and two grandsons. He worked 35 years in civil engineering at Eglin AFB and retired to a dual career of raising beef cattle and bass fishing.
