LADY EAGLES TAKE FLIGHT: Pleasant Home knocks off Andy Lady Bulldogs

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles swept the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs 3-0 in varsity volleyball action on Monday night in Pleasant Home.

“I thought we played well,” Pleasant Home head coach Tony Wilson said. “I told the girls that we needed to set the tone early. They did that and it carried over to the next two games. I’m proud of the win, but I’m extremely proud of the way they responded to what I told them before the game.”

GAME ONE

PLEASANT HOME 25, ANDALUSIA 9

In the opening match, the Lady Eagles jumped out front and cruised to a 25-9 victory.

River Baldwin quickly got the Lady Eagles out front 5-0.

Andalusia got a point back with a kill from Anna Brady.

Sarah Guilford took charge for the Lady Eagles with three kills to push the Pleasant Home lead up to 17-5.

Pleasant Home continued to play strong and pulled out a 25-9 victory.

GAME TWO

PLEASANT HOME 25, ANDALUSIA 13

In game two of the series, the Lady Eagles started the game off strong and ended with a 25-13 victory.

Baldwin got a kill for the first point of the game and then helped the Lady Eagles go up 6-0.

Brady picked up a kill for the Lady Bulldogs’ first point of the game to make the score 6-1.

Guilford then tacked on three more kills for the Lady Eagles to extend the lead to 11-3.

A few minutes later, Brady got an ace for the Lady Bulldogs as they crept back into the game.

Baldwin then came up with a pair of kills and Amy Kate Bulger added an ace to put the Lady Eagles on top 20-10.

Baldwin and Guilford picked up kills down the stretch to help the Lady Eagles come away with a 25-13 win and put them one game away from a sweep.

GAME THREE
PLEASANT HOME 25, ANDALUSIA 14

The Lady Eagles finished off the three-game sweep with a 25-14 victory.

Baldwin got a kill early and then came up with a big block to help the Lady Eagles out to a 6-0 run to start the game.

The Lady Bulldogs began to mount a comeback when Raygen Clarke picked up an ace.

Brady followed it with a kill and then another ace from Clarke left the Lady Bulldogs trailing 6-5.

Pleasant Home got the next point and then an ace from Bulger pushed the lead up to 8-5.

The Lady Bulldogs got a point back, but then back-to-back aces from Baldwin put the Lady Eagles up 13-7.

Guilford tacked on another kill to stretch the lead to 16-8.

A few minutes later, Guilford got another kill to put the Lady Eagles up 18-11.

Baldwin added another kill and then an ace from Guilford helped the Lady Eagles cap off the 25-14 victory.

“I felt like we played really sloppy,” Andalusia head coach Angie Grimes said. “We also didn’t have any communcation. It really came down to us not being able to run our offense and when you can’t run your offense against a team with two good hitters it turns out like this. We played good over in Goshen and then we come here and it looks like we’ve taken two steps back.”

The Lady Eagles won the won the junior varsity match 2-0 (25-19, 27-25).

The Lady Bulldogs came away with a 2-0 victory in junior high action (26-24, 25-7).
