The Covington County Commission adopted a resolution today at their regular meeting to prioritize finding an alternative route for or replacing the Pigeon Creek Bridge on Lloyd Mill Road.

Despite hearing concerns from citizens, county engineer Lynn Ralls along with the Alabama Department of Transportation Bridge Inspection Team ruled that the bridge be closed to all traffic until improvements can be made.

“The bridge will be closed until further notice. All signs and barricades are posted in accordance with regulations. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to call the Covington County Engineers Office at 334-428-2620,” Ralls said.

Ralls will meet with Rep. Mike Jones and Sen. Jimmy Holley to find state or federal funding for replacing the bridge or funding an alternative route.

Ralls will also meet with state highway officials next week to seek a solution to the bridge problem as well.

“Due to safety concerns, the bridge will close at noon, today, (Tue., Sep. 11) because of safety concerns,” Ralls said.
