The Florala Wildcats (0-2) look to get back in the win column when they host the Brantley Bulldogs (2-0) on Friday night in Florala in Class 1A, Area 2 action.

“I expect us to keep getting better,” Florala head coach Scott Mason said. “We scheduled these bigger schools earlier this season to prepare us for this tough run of Georgiana, Brantley and Elba.”

Despite losing last week, Mason was pleased with his team’s performance.

“We played a very good team last week,” Mason said. “They have a great coach who is a good friend of mine. I felt like we played pretty good football last week. Our defense played better and they are getting better each week. They got better as the night went along.”

Mason was also pleased with the way the offense played.

“Rashaad Coleman did an excellent job playing quarterback last week,” Mason said. “We have really been able to open up the playbook some more with him playing quarterback. We’ve been able to add things that fit his style. We’ve had to change up some things a little bit, but that’s the beauty of what we do.”

Mason said that they still have a few players banged up that he hopes to get them better before Friday.

“We’ve got to heal up a little,” Mason said. “We’ve got some key guys that are beat up.”

Doing the little things right is what Mason said would be key for this week.

“We can’t make any mistakes,” Mason said. “We’ve got to take care of the football. If the defense plays well and we slow them down, I think we have a chance to be competitive. I’ve been so proud of the way this team has fought through adversity. I really can’t say enough how proud I am of every player on this team. They continue to come out everyday and work on getting better. If we keep doing that, we are going to be fine.”

Brantley leads the series 21-3-1 and won last year’s contest 65-21.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 on the year after knocking off New Brockton 35-17 and Kinston 39-0.

Florala is 1-2 this season after beating St. Michael 51-9 and losing to Cottage Hill Christian 42-14 and Georgiana 35-28.

Kickoff between Florala and Brantley is set for 7 p.m., Friday in Florala.
