LADY BOBCATS VICTORIOUS: Opp slips past Straughn Lady Tigers in area play

The Opp Lady Bobcats pulled out a narrow 3-0 victory over the Straughn Lady Tigers on Tuesday night in area action in Straughn.

GAME ONE

OPP 25,

STRAUGHN 21

In the opening match, the Lady Bobcats used a big run halfway through the match to pull off a 25-21 victory.

Allie Kelley got the Lady Tigers on top to start the contest.

Opp tied it with a big block and then took the lead, but Laura Lee Blatz and Kelley came up with big points to put Straughn up 6-5.

Straughn went up 15-12 before and Opp run pushed the Lady Bobcats into the lead.

Madi Henley put the Lady Bobcats up 16-15 with a kill and then an ace from Sara Kate Horn put Opp on top 17-15.

Henley then came up with a block and another ace from Horn helped Opp use an 11-0 run to go up 23-15.

The Lady Bobcats finished off the game for a 25-21 victory.

GAME TWO

OPP 25,

STRAUGHN 22

In the second game of the night, the Lady Bobcats fought from behind to pick up a 25-22 victory.

Katie James put Straughn out front 14-9 with a pair of aces, but the Lady Bobcats fought back and came away with a 25-22 victory.

GAME THREE

OPP 27,

STRAUGHN 25

The Lady Bobcats finished off the three-game sweep with a 27-25 victory.

Straughn trailed 20-12, but used a 9-0 run to go up 21-20.

Both teams continued to battle, but it was the Lady Bobcats who came away with a 27-25 victory.

“They are a good team and we have some young girls,” Straughn head coach Daniel Rodgers said. “Our girls are competing hard and we are trending upward. Our girls never gave up and responded like I wanted them.”

Opp head coach Bridgett Brantley was also pleased with her team’s performance.

“I feel like we could have played better,” Brantley said. “That’s not our strongest match, but we have some girls that are playing through the stomach bug because this was such a big match. With us not being a 100 percent, I thought we looked good.”
