OES teachers rank among best

Niche.com recently placed Opp Elementary School at No. 17 in a ranking of best public elementary school teachers in Alabama.
Niche used academic indicators, parent and student surveys, teacher salaries, absenteeism and experience and student/teacher ratio to determine which Alabama public schools have the best teachers.
The school has a 20:1 student to teacher ratio, and an average teacher salary of $49,025. According to state test scores, 69 percent of students are at least proficient in math and 52 percent in reading.
“We’re very proud,” principal Shawn Short said.
