Straughn High School’s John Higgins decided to step down as the head football coach on Monday morning.

“This is just a direction we decided to go at this time,” Straughn High School principal Donny Powell said. “Coach Higgins has decided to step down as head football coach, but will remain as a teacher and the athletic director.”

Powell said that assistant coaches Michael Smith and Jarrod Wooten will take over for Higgins for the remainder of the season.

Higgins took over as the head coach at Straughn in 2017 after the departure of Chris Wilson. He went 2-11 in 13 games as the Straughn head coach.
