Managers for Dirt Cheap began interviewing potential employees for its new Andalusia store Monday, and will continue the selection process through Thursday.
District manager David Edwards confirmed the store will open in mid-October at 1413 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway, or the former Burke’s building.
“I think the market in Andalusia will do well for us,” Edwards said. “I think we can fill a need for people in this community.”
The company, which operates in the Southeastern United States, already has 20 Alabama locations. Dirt Cheap purchases liquidations, overstocks, out of season goods, customer returns and closeouts from manufacturers, distributors and other retailers, and sells them at discounted prices. The company expects to sell clothing, housewares, furniture, home décor, shoes, electronics and soft goods in its Andalusia location.
“We provide a little bit of everything,” Edwards said. “We have a ton of seasonal stuff coming in as well. We have a good quality set up with a very reduced price.”
Edwards said the company is currently hiring for all positions.
“We will probably start with hiring 30 people,” Edwards said. “Depending on how busy we are, we may cut it down or keep all of them, but I do know that we will start out with 30.”
The company is hiring part-time stockers, cashiers, front-end coordinators, heavy material handlers and full time assistant managers.
New hires must be willing to work flexible hours for store coverage 15 to 25 hours a week and applicants must be 18 years old and pass a background check and drug screen.
Interested applicants can complete an online form, or apply in person at the Andalusia location, the former Burke’s building.
Interviews will continue through Thursday, September 20, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and on Friday, September 21, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“We are looking forward to serve the Covington County community,” Edwards said.
