A driver who was speeding Sunday night and attempted to outrun an Andalusia Police Department officer was charged with multiple offenses.

Sgt. Roger Cender attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Academy Drive toward Sanford Road at approximately 8:30 p.m. The driver refused to stop and continued through the intersection, turning right onto Sanford Road and into a wooded area, then turning off his lights in an attempt to elude the officer.

Sgt. Cender was able to maintain sight of the vehicle and take the driver into custody. The driver, Brandon Scott Roney, 18, of Andalusia was charged with attempting to elude law enforcement and reckless endangerment due to a passenger being in the vehicle with him.

Roney was booked and released on $1,000 bond.

Theft case

In an unrelated case, the APD on Monday arrested a man they announced last week was wanted for the October 2017 theft of a golf cart.

The APD charged Cornelius James Marshall with 2nd degree receiving stolen property in connection with a case involving a stolen golf cart from October 2017.

Marshall is being held at the Covington County Jail under a $10,000 bond.
