South Central Mental Health is holding a Prevention and Recovery Resources Fair next week in honor of National Recovery Month.

SCMH’s Staci Wilson explained that the event is being organized to both raise awareness of recovery resources available locally, as well as awareness of programs typically needed by those in recovery. The Children’s Policy Council is assisting with the event.

Counselors, representatives of SCMH’s residential recovery program, First Step, and others will provide recovering information. Crossover Ministries also will be on hand.

LBW’s nursing students will provide dieting and nutrition information, and do height, weight and BMI testing.

A mobile health unit will be on hand to do Hepatitis C and HIV testing.

The Andalusia Housing Authority, Covington Area Transportation (CATS), Department of Public Health, Vocational Rehabilitation, Army National Guard, and LBW adult ed programs also will provide information.

For those currently in Drug Court, the event will count as a meeting, and Drug Court Director Sabrina Cobb will be on hand to sign cards.

“The important thing to remember is that everybody has to pull together (with resources), or the addict will be right back where he or she started,” Wilson said.

There also will be bouncy houses available so that children may be entertained while their parents learn more about services. Popcorn, drinks, and other games also will be available.

The event is set for 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. next Thursday, Sept. 27, at Central Church of Christ on South Three Notch Street.
