Registering and tagging a new vehicle just got a little easier for the residents of Covington County.

The registration of a new vehicle purchased from a dealer can now be completed online, Probate Judge Stacy Brooks said.

For several years, residents have been able to renew their tags online, but if you had a new registration you had to personally visit the probate office. Now, you can go to a secure website and register your automobile online.

“We are always looking for ways to assist the residents of Covington County,” Brooks said. “Although we enjoy seeing everybody, it can be stressful to customers who need to be somewhere else and end up having to wait in line. This is a way for individuals to take care of their business when it is convenient for them.”

The on-line registration process can be initiated at www.covingtonprobateoffice.com. Vehicle owners will need their Alabama Title Application, the bill of sale from the dealership, proof of insurance for the new vehicle, and a valid Alabama driver’s license for each name on the title application available when they begin the registration process . The documents can be scanned or photographed and submitted.

A debit/credit card will also be necessary to complete the transaction. Tags and decals will be mailed to the customer.

Anyone with questions about registrations can call the probate office at (334) 428-2510.
