On Saturday, October 13, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at The Yoga Place on Heath/River Falls Road, Flamenco guitarist Teh-Teh el Poloco will introduce workshop participants to the Juerga, an upbeat party with singing, laughing, music, food, drink, and fun.

This accomplished Flamenco personality shares his decade and a half study of Flamenco in an interactive class.

“We will learn Palmas, the rhythmic clapping that supports the Flamenco experience,” said Amy Henderson, who studies with this teacher and is helping bring him to Andalusia. “We learn to sing melodies in Gypsy Spanish, the singing that is the cornerstone of all Flamenco. Finally, we add some basic dance movement to physically respond to the things happening in the music.”

You don’t have to be a dancer to enjoy this workshop. This is pure, spontaneous, organic Flamenco, accessible to all.

“When the learning is over, we will have a Flamenco Juerga, try out our new skills and, most importantly, enjoy as a community,” said Nancy Blackmon, who is hosting the workshop. “Don’t worry if you know nothing of Flamenco. This event is designed for those new to the art.”

The Juerga is an event allowing a community of people, novice and professional, wealthy or pauper, to interact with each other. It becomes an expression of personality. But remember, it is also a party and it is exhilarating.

“You are invited to bring interest, enthusiasm, (and your favorite finger food) and spend a fall afternoon learning with friends and soaking up gorgeous music,” Blackmon said.

The cost is $35 per person.
