Though it will not help residents of Covington County preparing this week for Hurricane Michael, the Covington County Commission on Tuesday approved for a severe weather preparedness tax holiday in February of 2019.

The commission hopes by participating in this tax holiday it will prepare citizens for storms in the future.

The commission also:

  • Reappointed Gary Smith to the South Alabama Regional Airport board and appointed Whitney Simpson to the Florala Airport Authority.
  • Approved merit pay increases for employees in the probate judge’s office and revenue commission office.
  • Approved a resolution in support of the Organized Community Action Program.
  • Presented a proclamation to the Red Level High School Student Council for their efforts on Red Ribbon Week.
