The Pleasant Home Eagles (1-6, 1-4) played hard, but came up just short in a 20-14 loss to Kinston on Friday night in Pleasant Home.

“We played good enough to win tonight,” Pleasant Home head coach Rick Mercer said. “We just turned the ball over too much. It was a four quarter game and we had the lead late, but couldn’t secure it. We turned the ball over late and they scored.”

Pleasant Home took the lead to start the game when Austin Kelley hauled in a catch from Jon Cooley to put the Eagles up 8-0.

Pleasant Home led 8-6 at halftime and then Kinston scored to start the second half.

The Eagles went back up in the fourth quarter with a touchdown from Cooley.

Pleasant Home had the ball late in the game with a chance to hold on for the win, but a fumble gave Kinston life.

Kinston then scored to pull out the 20-14 win.
