George Calvin was outside on Fri., Oct. 5, when his lab was attacked by his neighbor’s two pit bulls. After throwing a stick and then a brick at one of the pit bulls, the dog turned on him and bit him in the mouth, causing Calvin to go to the hospital and get 11 stitches in his lip.
“I don’t know why they attacked my dog,” Calvin said. “They just walked into my yard and started attacking my dog, biting him on the neck and shaking him.”
Calvin’s dog did not survive the attack and now Calvin and his fiancé, Sherita Jackson, are trying to spread the word about just how dangerous pit bulls can be.
“We would always have to go all the way around the back of the house to take water to our dog,” Jackson said. “The neighbor always said that they would never attack, but look what happened. They are very dangerous.”
Jackson said that they called the police and that when they showed up they shot the pit bulls.
“One was shot six times and the other one was shot three times,” Calvin said. “The police came immediately when we called.”
A spokesman for the APD confirmed the incident, but declined to comment further.
The couple is hoping their neighbor will pay for their medical expenses out of pocket, without getting the law involved.
“We don’t know what is going to happen,” Jackson said. “We haven’t pressed charges because we are hoping to settle it without getting the law involved, but now he won’t even answer us. My fiancé had to get 11 stitches, and still has a puncture wound under his chin. He is on three different medications now and we couldn’t even afford for him to get a rabies shot. We will have to press charges if he doesn’t take responsibility.”
