Lady Bulldogs take area title

The Andalusia High School Lady Bulldogs took care of business last night as they walked away with the Class 4A, Area 2 championship.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated Hillcrest-Evergreen High School and came back to beat Clarke County High School in the championship match after losing the first set.

GAME ONE

In the opening game of the day the Lady Bulldogs’ defense was strong as they pounded the Lady Jaguars 25-4.

GAME TWO

ANDALUSIA 25,

HILLCREST 1

The Lady Bulldogs dominated the second game, only allowing the Lady Jaguars to score one point.

Anna Brady ended the game for the Lady Bulldogs with two aces.

GAME THREE

ANDALUSIA 25,

HILLCREST 4

To finish off the sweep, the Lady Bulldogs held tough on defense and Brady and Kathleen O’Neal dominated on offense to secure a spot in the championship match.

CLARKE COUNTY 25,

ANDALUSIA 22

The Lady Bulldogs started off at a slow pace, getting behind 17-9 in the first game.

Two big blocks from Annie Tomberlin helped the Lady Bulldogs regain a couple of points, but they were still down 19-16.

O’Neal tied it up for the Lady Bulldogs after a kill, but then Clarke County scored four points in a row to get game point at 24-20.

GAME TWO

After losing the first game, the Lady Bulldogs focused and used a strong offense to win the second game.

Brady and O’Neal had several kills that led the Lady Bulldogs to win the second game.

GAME THREE

ANDALUSIA 25,

CLARKE COUNTY 9

In the third game of the match, the Lady Bulldogs maintained their focus and fought hard on defense to hold Clarke County to only nine points.

Brady again ended the game for the Lady Bulldogs with a kill and an ace.

GAME FOUR

ANDALUSIA 25,

CLARKE COUNTY 9

The Lady Bulldogs held strong as they dominated on offense to win the final game of the championship match 25-9.

Andalusia and Clarke County will travel to the super regional tournament in Montgomery on Friday.

“I think the first game started out pretty slow,” Head coach Angie Grimes said. “After that I think the girls did an awesome job coming together as a team. I was very proud of how they pulled together and fought back.”

Grimes said that the team still has a lot to work on before they travel to Montgomery on Friday.

“We need to work on our blocking and making sure our defense is intact,” Grimes said. “I’m proud of our offense and the plays that they made, so we are just going to stay focused and continue to work.”
