EILAND ELAND ANTHONY, JR.

Mr. Eiland Eland Anthony, Jr. died peacefully on Wed., Oct. 24, 2018, at the age of 95. He was born in Alexandria, Va., on July 14, 1923, to Ruby and Eiland Anthony, Sr.

After graduating from Troy High School, Mr. Anthony attended Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., from 1941-1943. After his second year, his entire VMI class enlisted in the United States Army. After completing Officer Candidate School, he joined the European Theater in the Fourth Infantry Division as a Second Lieutenant. After serving in combat, he was awarded the Silver Star for bravery and valor.

He was married for 68 years to his childhood sweetheart, Jane Henderson Anthony of Troy, Ala., together they raised five children. Jane’s and Eland’s greatest joy was being with family and travelling together.

Among his business and civic leadership roles were Chairman of The Commercial Bank of Andalusia; Chairman of The First Bank of Marianna, Fla.; President of The Associated Industries of Alabama; President of The Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce; President of The Andalusia Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow; Chairman of the Administrative Board of The First United Methodist Church of Andalusia; Board Member and Treasurer of the Blue Lake Methodist Camp.

His personal interests were varied and included golf, Auburn football, history, and especially family genealogy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Henderson Anthony, and his sister, Virginia Anthony Broughton.

He is survived by his children, Richard (Ginny) Anthony, Katherine (Terry) Dubose, Elizabeth (Sam) Starr, David (Angela) Anthony, and Bill (Happy) Anthony; grandchildren, Richard (Heather) Anthony, Jr., Lee (Rob) Bare, Anthony (Tiffany) DuBose, Brantley Byers, Libba Falke, Will (Caroline) Starr, Katherine Starr, William Anthony, David Anthony, Jr., John Starr, Ann (Wesley) Hazel, Harris Anthony, and Wilkerson Anthony; and 15 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Charlotte Smith for all her loving devotion and care for Mr. Anthony.

The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Sat., Oct. 27, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia with the Rev. Dr. Jason Thrower officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m., prior to services in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorials to be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 403 East Three Notch St., Andalusia, Ala., 36420, to the Blue Lake Methodist Camp, 8500 Oakwood Ln., Andalusia, Ala., 36420, or the charity of one’s choice.

REBECCA SEYMOUR BARTON

Mrs. Rebecca Seymour Barton, age 91, of Andalusia, passed away on Wed., Oct. 24, 2018, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Fri., Oct. 26, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ronald Davis officiating the service. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the funeral home.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Patsy Barton, Joe Barton, and Tim and Pam Barton all of Andalusia; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jim Brown of Andalusia; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Eugene Barton.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Barton, David Barton, Ken Barton, Blaine Wilson, Tony Nall, and Jeff Seymour.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Comfort Care Hospice or the Bethany Cemetery Fund.
