Rangers training at Lake Jackson again next week

The 6th Ranger training Battalion from Eglin Air Force Base will have a training exercise at Lake Jackson in Florala on Tuesday.

It’s the second time this year for military exercises over the lake. A similar exercise was held in May. The plan for this training exercise is similar to that one. The military uses the Florala Municipal Airport to stage the helicopters, and shuttles the Rangers from the lake to the airport.

“It is a big day for us,” Mayor Terry Holley said. “We thought everything went real well in May, and we were pleased they decided to come back.”

According to a release from the city, the battalion plans a UH-60 (Black Hawk) water jump and helo-cast into Lake Jackson. The exercises are planned from 10 am. until 1 p.m.

The training is planned so that family members can come and observe the jumps, and the military holds a social gathering for the Rangers and family members following the training activity.

The public is invited to observe the training. Lake Jackson will be closed to all other activity.
