Lady Tigers finish 3rd in tourney

The Straughn Lady Tigers finished third in the annual Straughn Thanksgiving tournament after knocking off the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night in Straughn.

STRAUGHN 35,

ANDALUSIA 23

In the final game of the tournament for Straughn and Andalusia, the Lady Tigers pulled out a 35-23 victory.

Allie Kelley had the Lady Tigers up and running right out of the gate.

A. Kelley had 10 points to start the game to put the Lady Tigers up 10-0.

Andalusia battled back, but the Lady Tigers were able to hold on for a 35-23 victory.

A. Kelley led the Lady Tigers with 13 points.

Jahdiya Lowery led the Lady Bulldogs with nine points.

BRANTLEY 45,

ANDALUSIA 28

Andalusia put up a fight, but Brantley was able to come away with a 45-28 win.

Andalusia started the game with a 7-0 run, but Brantley came charging back and took control.

Lowery led Andalusia with 10 points.

ELBA 45,

STRAUGHN 44

In the final semifinal match of the day, Elba held off a late comeback attempt from Straughn to pick up a 45-44 victory.

Straughn led for most of the first half, but Elba surged in the second half to edge out the win.

A. Kelley led the Straughn with 17 points and Kelsey Kelley tacked on 14 points.

“I thought we played well and I thought we hustled,” Straughn head coach Bradley Stephens said. “We saw some things that you don’t typically see this early in the year and I thought the girls adjusted well. Elba applies serious pressure on the ball and the girls handled that well. Andalusia threw a box-and-1 on us and the girls adjusted.”
