Antioch Road will be resurfaced in 2019, thanks to federal funding.
The Covington County Commission approved a resolution in support of the project in a special called meeting on Wednesday.
The state has awarded $975,000 to resurface Antioch Road from Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church all the way to Antioch.
“The road will be resurfaced for about two to three miles starting at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church,” county engineer Lynn Ralls said. “And it is all federal funding that we received.”
Due to weather conditions, Ralls said that they will begin resurfacing next Spring.
“In the winter months it gets pretty cold and we can’t resurface the roads,” Ralls said. “We will probably start around March or April to start resurfacing.”
Assistance for new track facility
In an unrelated matter, the county also agreed to enter into a contract with the Covington County Board of Education on handling the administrative work for the turning lane for their new $3.4 million track facility, located on Hwy. 55 south of Andalusia.
“They needed to go into a contract with a highway and road department so we signed a contract with them to handle all of the paperwork,” Ralls said. “We won’t be doing any of the actual construction of the turn lane, just the administrative work.”
