Controlled burns in Conecuh set this week

The Conecuh National Forest began burning 769 acres adjacent to Al Hwy 137, four miles south of Hwy. 29, on Tuesday. The controlled burn will continue through Thursday.

According to a press release from the Conecuh National Forest, smoke may be visible from Hwy. 137, 29 and Hwy. 24.

Signs will be posted I the area of the burn. If encountering smoke on roadways, motorists are encouraged to slow down, toun on your low-beam headlights, and use caution when encountering prescribed burning operations and smoke.

A prescribed burn is a controlled fire ignited by professionally trained and experienced Forest Service personnel. A prescribed burn is carefully planned to improve the health of the National Forest.
