Saturday’s Community Yard Sale to benefit Red Level yearbook group

The Red Level High School Yearbook Club is hosting its first annual Community Yard Sale in an effort to get the community and the school to work together.

“We try really hard to get the community and the school to work together,” yearbook sponsor Nikki Crum said. “I wanted to do a fundraiser for the Yearbook club, and I wanted a way for the community to be involved so this worked out well.”

Only eight spots have been sold, and Crum is hoping to have at least 20 by this weekend.

“We don’t have as many as I would hope,” Crum said. “But we extended the deadline to this Friday so it gives people plenty of time.”

She said that two of the plots are vendors while the other six are just straight yard sale people.

“We have two that are going to sell little trinkets that they have made,” Crum said. “And then the other six are going to sell traditional yard sale items that they have in their closet, garage or shed.”

With the yard sale, there are a few restrictions on what people can sell.

“We had to add a couple of restrictions just in case,” Crum said. “I just went by our code of conduct. We don’t want people selling any weapons so no guns, knives or anything like that. We are also a tobacco free campus so no tobacco and no alcohol can be sold.”

Crum said that the students have made this project their own.

“They have really been excited about doing this project,” Crum said. “They have done everything from making signs, emailing people, trying to get people to buy a plot and they will also be working the event. They will be out there making hotdogs and selling drinks.”

Crum said that she is looking forward to getting the community involved with the school the most.

“We really want to work together with the community and have a lot of people from the community come out to our event,” Crum said. “Some of the girls even mentioned having a beauty pageant dress swap and they could do it inside and change in the bathrooms and try dresses on.”

Since the weather is looking a little rough for Saturday, Crum said that she will be moving all of the outside plots inside the school.

The price for the plots are $25 for an inside plot. The deadline for entry is today, Fri., Dec. 7 and people can pay by cash, check or money order.

The community yard sale will be Sat., Dec. 8, from 8 a.m., until noon, in the Red Level High School Auditorium.

“We are hoping that it will do well this year,” Crum said. “We will absolutely do it again if it does well.”
