TAKING IT TO THE COURT: Andy Bulldogs split games with Luverne Tigers

The Andalusia Bulldogs split varsity games with Luverne on Monday night in Andalusia.

GIRLS

ANDALUSIA 39,

LUVERNE 30

In the opening varsity game, the Lady Bulldogs took an early lead and held off the Lady Tigers for a 39-30 victory.

Daniah Lawson hit a big 3-pointer in the opening period to help the Lady Bulldogs go up 10-4 after one period of play.

In the second period, the Lady Bulldogs locked in and pushed their lead up to double digits.

India Dowling-Green and Eryanna Sheridan couldn’t miss as they racked up six points each to give the Lady Bulldogs a 24-10 lead at halftime.

Shalisa Thomas tacked on four points in the third period and Symone Reed chipped in three points to put the Lady Bulldogs up 33-19.

The Lady Tigers attempted to battle their way back into the game, but the Lady Bulldog defense held strong to pick up the 39-30 victory.

Dowling-Green led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points.

Thomas and Reed finished the game with eight points each.

Sheridan tacked on seven points.

Katie Black and Lawson finished the game with three points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs.

BOYS

LUVERNE 56,

ANDALUSIA 53

In the final game of the evening, the Luverne Tigers held off a late comeback to come away with a 56-53 victory.

Luverne opened up the game with a quick 3-pointer to give them an early advantage.

The Bulldogs answered quickly with a layup from Elijah McClain.

Andalusia forced a turnover and Franklin Osorio turned it into a basket to put the Bulldogs up 4-3.

Andalusia’s defense came up with another stop and McClain picked up a bucket to extend the Andalusia lead to 6-3.

The Bulldogs’ hot start continued with a dunk from Keaun Samuel.

Roosevelt Weaver followed with a basket to keep the Bulldogs rolling.

Andalusia continued to extend their lead when McClain buried a 3-pointer.

The Bulldogs pushed the lead up to 15-5 with a bucket from Luis Reyes.

Luveren then came charging back and went up 16-15 heading into the second period.

The game remained tight into the second period.

Luverne started off the second period strong and quickly went up 20-15.

The Bulldogs cut into the lead with a layup from McClain.

Andalusia got the game within one point when Osorio faked his man at the top of the key and then knocked down a 3-pointer to bring the score to 22-21 with 4:33 left before halftime.

Reyes followed with a tip in to put Analusia up 23-22.

Weaver then got a layup and the Bulldogs came up with a turnover that McClain turned into points to put the Bulldogs up 27-22.

Luverne battled back and tied the game 27-27 at hafltime.

Later in the fourth period, Luverne went up 51-44 before the Bulldogs began to chip away at the lead. Weaver came up with a couple of big baskets late, but five missed free throws down the stretch allowed Luverne to hold on a for a 56-53 victory.

“We got out played and out coached,” Andalusia head coach Brad Goldman said. “That’s really all there is to it.”

McClain led the Bulldogs with 15 points.

Reyes ended the night with 12 points.

Weaver finished the game with 11 points.
