The Andalusia Bulldogs finished in third place of the 52nd Annual Andalusia High School Christmas Invitational tournament after taking down Georgiana 53-47 on Saturday in Andalusia.

Andalusia won the opening tip off and Elijah McClain drew a foul as he was heading to the basket. McClain hit 1-of-2 to put Andalusia up early.

Georgiana responded strongly and went up 4-1.

McClain trimmed the lead to 4-3 when he got a basket after grabbing an offensive rebound.

The Bulldogs then tied the game with a free throw from Kendall Sims.

Georgiana followed with a 3-pointer to go up 7-4.

Sims cut the lead down to one point before a pair of free throws from Roosevelt Weaver gave Andalusia an 8-7 lead.

Andalusia then went up 10-7 with a jumper from McClain, but Georgiana hit a 3-pointer to tie the game 10-10 heading into the second period.

The Bulldogs came charging out of the gate in the second period and quickly went up 19-14.

Weaver then put Andalusia on top 21-14.

Andalusia got a big shot at the buzzer from Omare Latimer that gave the Bulldogs a 24-16 lead at halftime.

Keaun Samuel put the Bulldogs up by double digits in the third period with a strong drive to the basket.

Weaver tickled the twine on a 3-pointer to put Andalusia up 36-25.

A few minutes later, Franklin Osorio hit a big 3-pointer to help put Andalusia on top 42-32 heading into the final period.

Georgiana picked up the first bucket of the fourth period, but Weaver followed with a 3-pointer to put the Bulldogs up 45-34.

The Bulldogs got solid scores from Weaver and Samuel to pull out a 53-47 victory.

“The way we lost last night (Friday) at the buzzer, to be able to turn around and come back with some gumption about us to be able to come back and fight against a really good team,” Andalusia head coach Brad Goldman said. “Georgiana is a great team and they have a great coach (Kirk Norris) that always does a great job. I’m sure they will probably have another great season. Anytime you can beat a program like that it’s a big win and I couldn’t be prouder of these guys. Roosevelt Weaver made some big shots. Two young guys Kendall Sims (sophomore) and Omare Latimer (freshman) both gave us huge minutes. We got in foul trouble and Elijah (McClain) fouled out and Keaun (Samuel) had three right there in the first half so we had to depend on some young guys to come in and they did a great job. I was really impressed.”
