5+ inches of rain falls in 48 hours

The National Weather Service on Friday included Covington County in a flood warning that continues through noon Sunday.

Flooding at the Blackwater River near Baker is expected to affect Covington and Escambia Counties in Alabama, and Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties in Florida.

A weather system that has been moving through Alabama caused flash flooding in areas near Birmingham, and dumped as much as 5 inches of rain in parts of Covington County.

The Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Water Authority recorded 1.95 inches of rain on Thursday and 3.22 inches on Friday at its monitoring station on the Yellow River at Hwy. 84.

At its monitoring station on the Yellow River at Hwy. 55, the Choc-Pea Authority recorded 0.4 inches of rain on Thursday, and 3.16 inches of rain on Friday.

The National Weather Service said there is a 75 percent chance of rain today, with less chance tonight. Rains are expected to continue in to next week.
