The Florala Lady Wildcats needed overtime to get the job done, but they surged for a 47-45 victory over Georgiana on Friday in the semifinals of the Red Level Christmas tournament.

Florala went up 2-0 with a quick bucket for the Lady Wildcats.

Meredith Parker and Laken Hadley added two points each in the period to put Florala on top 6-3.

Me. Parker got back-to-back buckets in the second period off nice assists from her twin Makayla Parker.

Ma. Parker get in on the scoring action with a pair of 3-pointers to help the Lady Wildcats go up 19-7 at halftime.

The Lady Wildcats surged to start the third period and built a 27-7 lead before Georgiana came storming back.

Tenasia Gordon began knocking down three pointers left-and-right as she brought the Lady Panthers back and tied the game 38-38 at the end of regulation.

In overtime, the game went back-and-forth before Hadley buried a 3-pointer with just 2.5 seconds left on the clock.

Georgiana tried a final play, but couldn’t get the ball down the floor in time for a shot.

“We came out and set the tone of the game, finally,” Florala head coach David Bass said. “We came out and dominated the ball game in the first half. They scored seven points in the first half and three of them were transitions buckets. I was extremely impressed with the way we defended tonight. The second half we came out and executed our offense, but (Georgiana’s) No. 35 just caught on fire. She just went crazy. We’ve got to keep our younger girls out of foul trouble. That’s the biggest thing.”

The Lady Wildcats will take on T.R. Miller at 6 p.m., today for the tournament championship.
