RUTH VIOLA MCKATHAN

Mrs. Ruth Viola McKathan, of Semmes, Ala., passed away Sun., Jan. 6, 2019, at her residence. She was 88.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wed., Jan. 9, 2019, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church Andalusia, Ala., with the Rev. Fred Kelly, the Rev. George Riek, and the Rev. Ashley McKathan officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m., until 11 a.m. Wed., Jan. 9, 2019, at the church. Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia has been entrusted with arrangements.

Mrs. McKathan is survived by her husband, Miles McKathan of Semmes, Ala.; one son, Wayne Earl (Helen) McKathan of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Sherry Jean (Bill) Hanners of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jason Hanners, Corey Hanners, Denzil McKathan, and Megan McKathan Costes; and six great-grandchildren.

FRANK LESTER THOMASSON

Mr. Frank Lester Thomasson, 100, less than two months shy of his 101st birthday, passed away Fri., Jan. 4, 2019, at the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tues., Jan. 8, at Cedar Grove Church of Christ with interment in Smith Cemetery in the Mobley Creek community. Brother Eddie Boggess will officiate the service.  Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., today, Tuesday, at Cedar Grove.

He is survived by his son, Lester Dorrell Thomasson, Sr. of Andalusia; a grandson, Lester Dorrell Thomasson, Jr., also of Andalusia; two great-grandchildren, Emma Vai Thomasson of Fairhope, Elizabeth Ashtynn Thomasson of Phenix City, Ala.; and a great-great granddaughter, Naomi Abel Thomasson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank C. and Annie E. Ward Thomasson; his wife of 59 years, Beatrice Thomasson who died in 1999; and two brothers, Leon Carl Thomasson and Marvin Thomasson, who died when he was a child.

John Lucien Tyra, Jr.

John Lucien Tyra, Jr., 82 of Braselton, Ga., passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, at Brookside Assisted Living.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home Braselton with the Rev. Russell Harbin officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Park South Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday.

Born on November 15, 1936, in Sylacauga, Ala., he was the son of the late John Lucien Tyra, Sr. and the late Lucile Strickland Tyra. Mr. Tyra was owner and operator of Rainbow Shirt Company. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Northeast Church of Braselton. John was a 33rd Degree Mason, at Gate City Lodge #2, of Atlanta GA.

In addition to his parents, John Lucien Tyra, Sr. and Lucile Strickland Tyra Womack and John Henry Womack, he is preceded in death by his brother, Doyle Womack.

Mr. Tyra is survived by his wife Harriet Tyra of Braselton; sons, Mark John Tyra (Laurie) of  Cumming; Jay Kenneth Tyra (Deborah) of Jefferson; daughters, Kimberly Anne Lanier (Charles) of Cumming, Christi Renae Tyra of Braselton; grandchildren, Brent Ellis, Travis Tyra, Jacob Tyra, Hannah Tyra; brother, Huey Tyra of Altoona, FL and a number of other relatives.

RANDY KELLEY

Mr. Randy Kelley, age 68, of Andalusia, passed away Thurs., Jan. 03, 2019, at Andalusia Health.

Randy was raised in Rose Hill, Alabama by his loving parents Jack and Nobie Kelley. He was a 1969 graduate of Straughn High School. He attended BBI in Niceville, Fla., and later received a Masters in Secondary Education from Troy University. Aside from working in construction most of his life, he was also a Pastor, Music Director, and Youth Minister in many churches across Covington County, Dale County, Coffee County, and Mississippi.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sun., Jan. 6, from Bethany Baptist Church with Brother Terry Powell officiating the service. Interment followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday evening at Foreman Funeral Home.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Sherry Parker Kelley; son, Jason Kelley; son and daughter-in-law, Scotty (Micalyn) Kelley; daughter and son-in-law, Julie (Jeremy) Hardy; and son, T.J. Kelley; all of Andalusia. Sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Larry) Walker of Enterprise, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Pete (Virginia) Kelley of Enterprise, Ala.; brother, Andrew Kelley of Panama City, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie (Tommy) Wood of Enterprise, Ala.

He is also survived by his ten wonderful grandchildren, Austin Kelley, Savannah Kelley, Ashland Kelley, and Hudson Kelley (Jason’s children) of Andalusia; Brylon Kelley, Baylor Kelley, and Bronner Kelley (Scotty’s children) of Andalusia; John Parker Hardy, Sawyer Hardy, and Cooper Hardy (Julie’s children) of Andalusia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Nobie Kelley of Rose Hill, Alabama; father-in-law, Charles Parker of Andalusia, Alabama; and a special niece, Kelley Hobbs of Rose Hill, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Kelley, Scotty Kelley, T.J. Kelley, Hubble Sowards, Michael Kelley, Russell Kelley, Blake Kelley, Zach Kelley, Ryan Kelley, Jared Parker, Ross Parker, Chase Parker, and Zach Hammett.

STEVEN “KENNY” KENNETH JOHNSON

Mr. Steven “Kenny” Kenneth Johnson, of Dozier, passed away Sun., Jan. 6, 2019, in Pensacola, Fla. He was 65.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wed., Jan. 9, 2019, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel of Andalusia; with Rev. Derwood Cleland officiating.  Interment will follow in Elizabeth Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in McKenzie, Ala. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services (1 p.m.) at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel of Andalusia. Asked to serve as pallbearers are: Hansi McClellan, Stevie Watts, Pat Watts, Ricky Watts, Jessie Ward, and Ricky Ward.

Mr. Johnson is survived his significant other, Barbara Shoemaker; three children, Brandon (Krystal) Johnson, Steven Ivy Johnson, and April Johnson; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alan (Gabrielle) Johnson, and Victor Johnson.

WALTER LEE ‘POP’ PERKINS

Mr. Walter Lee “Pop” Perkins, of Andalusia, passed away Monday, January 07, 2019, at Andalusia Health. He was 83.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Andalusia Full Gospel Tabernacle church; with the Rev. John Hunt and the Rev. Travis Day officiating. Special music will be provided by Teresa Hunt and Travis Day. Interment will follow in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia has been entrusted with arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel of Andalusia.

Mr. Perkins is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Perkins; his children, Wesley (Nancy) Perkins, Johnny (Jaime) Perkins, Jamey (Bobbie) Perkins, Sandra (Mike) Little all of Andalusia; his grandchildren, Falla (Robbie) Bradford, Justin Gibson, Lance (Tiffany) Gibson, Chris (Alicia) Perkins, and Haden Perkins; and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy Bradford, and Xander Bradford. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley David and Bestus Elizabeth Perkins; and brothers, Bill Perkins and Charles Perkins.
