The No.6-ranked Florala Lady Wildcats held off the No.7-ranked Brantley Lady Bulldogs for a 52-51 on Thursday night in Brantley.
Florala opened up the game strong with a pair of 3-pointers from Laken Hadley.
Hadley finished the first period with eight points as the Lady Wildcats took a 13-11 lead into the second period.
Brantley got things rolling in the second period as they tacked on nine unanswered points to go up 20-13.
The Lady Wildcats battled back with big buckets from Jerilyn Kemp, Sharea Coleman and Jenna Goolsby.
At halftime, Brantley was up 24-19.
The Lady Wildcats got an and-one from Coleman to start the third, but the back-to-back 3-pointers from Brantley put them up 31-22.
Makayla Parker knocked down a big 3-pointer, and Coleman finished the period strong as the Lady Wildcats trailed 36-35 heading into the fourth period.
Kemp gave the Lady Wildcats a 39-37 lead with a pair of free throws.
With 15 seconds left and the game tied 50-50, Brantley wanted to take the final shot of the game, but Coleman came up with a steal and then drove the court for a layup to help give the Lady Wildcats the win.
“Like I’ve told you in multiple articles, our girls have shown resiliency all year long,” Lady Wildcats head coach David Bass said. “We fight down to the wire and we don’t ever give up. The deficit got as big as 10 tonight, but we found a way to keep ourselves in the fight. There are some little things we have to work on. We could have put this thing away a lot earlier if we just make free throws. I’m not complaining about the win, though.”
