Think fried chicken, collard greens, cracklin’ bread, and all the trimmings.
Throw in some gospel singing and a little line dancing, and you’ve got the annual Taste of Black History this weekend at the River Falls Community Center.
Organizer Mattie Freeney the community’s best cooks have promised to bring chicken and dumplings, collard greens (regular, hot and hotter), black-eye peas, lima beans, fried chicken, baked chicken, pigs’ feet, Hoppin’ John, cracklin’ bread and desserts.
“This is a fundraiser for the community center, so we want to show what the center is used for,” Freeney said. “We’ve started having line dancing classes here, so we thought we’d throw that in this year, too.”
Tickets are free for ages 5 and under, $5 for ages 5-11, and $10 for ages 12 and older. The River Falls Community Center is located at 9710 Gantt Road.
The event begins at 6 p.m.
