BULLDOGS FALL: Monroe County outs Andy

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs were unable to overcome a strong start from Monroe County as they fell 53-45 on Monday night in the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament in Andalusia.

Monroe County got on the board for before Shalisa Thomas put the Lady Bulldogs on the board with a free throw.

Monroe County then came through with a 3-pointer to go up 5-1.

Symone Reed got the first field goal of the game for the Lady Bulldogs to cut the score to 5-3.

India Dowling-Green tacked on a pair of shots and then a 3-pointer from Daniah Lawson left the Lady Bulldogs trailing 12-10 heading into the second period.

Monroe County came out strong in the second period and went up 16-10.

Katie Black picked up a bucket for the Lady Bulldogs to cut the score down to 16-12.

Monroe County came up with another couple of buckets before a basket from Erryanna Sheridan and a 3-pointer from Thomas cut the Monroe County lead down to 22-17.

Thomas finished the second period strong, but Andalusia trailed 28-25 at the halfway point.

In the third period, Monroe County came out strong and quickly built a 36-25 lead.

Thomas came up with several big shots for the Lady Bulldogs, but Monroe County continued to control the game.

Following baskets from Dowling-Green and Black, the Lady Bulldogs were down 42-35 heading into the final period.

Andalusia continued to battle down the stretch, but they were unable to fight their way back into the game.

With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs’ season comes to an end.

Monroe County will play Hillcrest on Wednesday for the area title.
