Eagles down McKenzie

The Pleasant Home Eagles advanced to the second round of the Class 1A, Area 2 tournament after knocking off McKenzie 49-41 on Tuesday night in Georgiana.

Pleasant Home spread the scoring around in the opening period, but they trailed 13-10 at the end of the first.

James Hawkins and Kris Cook both knocked down 3-pointers in the opening period for the Eagles.

Pleasant Home struggled to get their offense going in the second period as McKenzie went up 27-14 at halftime.

Austin Kelley got rolling in the third period as he picked up seven points to put the Eagles back in the game.

Josh Ruth, Hawkins and Cook each pitched in on the scoring in the third period, but McKenzie was up 33-30 heading into the final period.

Kelley took control of the game for the Eagles in the final period as he continued to make his way to the free-throw line.

Kelley had 10 points in the final period including six free throws to lift the Eagles to victory.

Kelley led the Eagles with 17 points.

Pleasant Home will face Georgiana on Thursday at 7 p.m.
