The Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Foundation is holding an inaugural “Day of Giving” on March 4, 2019, with a goal of raising $140,000 for a 35-seat bus to transport LBWCC students to athletic and skills competitions, leadership development events, and cultural enrichment opportunities.

“Starting now and through midnight on March 4, all donations will count toward meeting the goal,” said LBWCC Foundation President Wayne Bennett. “This inaugural event is the Foundation’s only spring fundraiser to help support the needs of students.”

This one day of giving will shape student experiences at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, he said.

“Donations to the LBWCC Foundation are critical investments that enhance the ability of the College to provide the very best educational opportunities possible,” said Bennett. “This will benefit all students at LBWCC with the combined support of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. This year, there is the option to direct a gift to impact students and fund the bus.”

LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel said this type of philanthropic drive is often conducted by institutions of higher education throughout the country.

“We are so grateful for the volunteer directors of the LBWCC Foundation and the decision to undertake this inclusive way of providing a margin of excellence for all LBWCC students,” he said. “We hope all the alumni in the area, businesses, organizations, and friends of the College will help us meet our goal.”

LBWCC Associate Dean of Institutional Advancement Dr. Arlene Davis said any amount is appreciated.

“One of the major goals of this fundraiser is to provide an opportunity for everybody to participate at any amount. Every gift in any amount will make a difference in making this goal a reality,” she said.

Any gift can be made online using a credit or debit card through LBWCC’s website, www.lbwcc.edu, using a secure PayPal link. Checks made payable to LBWCC Foundation should be mailed to P.O. Box 1311, Andalusia, AL 36420.

“We would love to see everyone in the community show their support of the College and the students by giving something,” said Davis. “This community college has a rich, 50-plus year history with alumni stretching back for generations. We need your help to make this drive successful. We can’t do it without you.”
