Lady Tigers upset Providence Christian

The Straughn Lady Tigers used a last-second basket to upset Providence Christian 52-51 on Monday night in the Class 3A sub regional game in Dothan.
In the first period, Providence Christian went up 16-9.
Allie Kelley led the way for the Lady Tigers with six points in the first period.
Ansley Montgomery tacked on a 3-pointer in the opening frame.
The Lady Tigers came out charging in the second period as they pushed the game to a 26-26 tie going into halftime.
Montgomery led the charge with five points in the second period for the Lady Tigers.
Kelsey Kelley and A. Kelley had four points each in the second period.
Straughn continued to battle in the third period, but Providence Christian took a 40-34 lead into the final period.
K. Kelley had a strong third period as she led the Lady Tigers with six points.
A. Kelley tacked on two points in the third period.
K. Kelley put the Lady Tigers on her back in the final frame as she led the charge with 13 points.
K. Kelley gave the Lady Tigers the lead when she knocked down a free throw with five seconds left in the game.
Providence Christian attempted on last play, but the Lady Tigers shut it down to pick up a 52-51 victory.
“We played extremely hard,” Straughn head coach Bradley Stephens said. “The girls handled the different runs that Providence made. They did a good job of persevering and kept pushing through. They did what they needed to do to get the win.”
K. Kelley led the Lady Tigers with 23 points.
A. Kelley finished the game with 14 points.
With the win, the Lady Tigers advance to the Class 3A Regionals Southwest Regionals in Montgomery on Saturday against Pike Road..
