Area native Martin McDaniel is going on the road with Alan Jackson.
McDaniel, who is now a Nashville musician, was one of 21 musicians chosen to compete in the Alan Jackson 2019 Tour Wild Card Contest.
Jackson’s Nashville bar, AJ’s Good Time Bar, conducted an online voting contest originally intended to narrow the field down to two musicians.
“Everybody, listen up! I need y’all’s help,” McDaniel posted on social media when the voting began in January. “I’ve been put in a small group of talented folks to have a chance to go on tour with THE Alan Jackson! Here’s where you come in– Go to www.ajsgoodtimebar.com/ and find my name and PLEASE vote for me!! You can vote as many times as you want. This would be a dream come true– Let’s do this!!”
That dream did come true on Monday, when AJ’s Good Time Bar announced the response was so overwhelming, three musicians were chosen. “
“We had so many votes that we decided to take three artists instead of two,” AJ’s Good Time Bar posted on its social media page on Monday. “Congratulations to Francelle, Martin McDaniel and Mindy Ellis Campbell – the final acts to go on the road with Alan Jackson.”
Jackson’s 2019 kicked off Jan. 25 in Louisville, Ky., and continues through September. The singer will take a break in the middle of the summer and resume touring in August, according to tasteofcountry.com. The dates on which the guest musicians will join him have not been announced.
McDaniel will be home to perform at the Rattlesnake Rodeo in Opp on Sat., March 23.
