The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting workers for temporary jobs available in advance of the 2020 Census.
Anne Powell, a recruiting assistant who is working to recuit applicants in Covington, Butler, and Escambia counties, said approximately 40 workers are needed in Covington County, and to date, applications have been slow.
“We are looking for people 18 and older, and the pay is $14.50 per hour,” she said. “18-year-olds who are still in school can work this summer.”
Applicants will be placed in an applicant pool for 2020 Census field positions for positions they qualify for and will be contacted as work becomes available in their area.
According to the 2020 Census website, the bureau is hiring clerks, field supervisors and census takers.
Those interested can apply online at 2020census.gov/jobs.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 95 percent of all households will receive their census information in the mail. Approximately 5 percent of households will receive an invitation to participate when a census worker drops it off. In most cases, these are homes which do not have mail delivered, but use a PO Box. Fewer than 1 percent of all households will be counted in person.
