President Donald Trump is expected in Alabama today to tour the storm-damaged areas of Lee County, where tornados killed 23 people Sunday afternoon.
But Emergency Management Agency officials will have an eye on a system that has the potential to create more severe storms this weekend.
“There is now a slight risk for severe storms north of a line from Wiggins, Mississippi, to Monroeville, Alabama, to Greenville, Alabama, and a marginal risk for severe storms elsewhere,” EMA director Susan Harris said in an email Thursday.
There is a potential for tornados, she said, from Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening.
There may be some potential for isolated severe storm development during the day Sunday, she said.
“We are still monitoring this and will have more details on later updates,” she said.
Earlier in the week, Trump twice tweeted his intent to visit Alabama today. As of Thursday afternoon, the White House had not released details of that trip.
