Straughn High School’s latest Character in Action Award winner Carley Glidewell said that she loves to help kids.
Glidewell, a senior, has been volunteering with Cookies with Characters since she was in eighth grade.
“I really like kids a lot,” Glidewell said. “And helping others out. That is why I wanted to help with Cookies with Characters.”
Though she has been with Cookies with Characters for five years, most people do not see her face.
“I have been so many characters over the years,” Glidewell said. “I’ve been Mickey Mouse at Cocoa with Characters, Donald Duck, Dora, Marshall from Paw Patrol and Daisy Duck. I usually don’t pick the characters that have their face shown.”
Glidewell said the best part about working with Cookies with Characters is the kids.
“Seeing the kids’ faces light up is the best part,” Glidewell said. “That has to the best part of it all.”
This year’s Cookies with Characters show was one to remember for Glidewell.
“This year was my best year for Cookies with Characters,” Glidewell said. “They did the carriage rides and I feel that the show this year was way better.”
Glidewell said that she definitely wants to keep helping with Cookies with Characters and Meredith’s Miracles.
“I feel like I am helping others,” Glidewell said. “And that makes me feel really good.”
Along with Cookies with Characters, Glidewell helps with every other Meredith’s Miracles fundraisers including Cocoa with Characters and the Meredith’s Miracles Valentine’s Store. She also volunteers at her church, Southside Baptist Church in Andalusia, during vacation bible school.
After high school, Glidewell plans to attend LBW Community College for two years before transferring to Troy University. She hopes to become a teacher.
She is the daughter of Tammy and Derek Glidewell.
