On March 12, 2019, investigators with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Daniel James Ervin on charges of failing to register as a sex offender after establishing a residence inside Covington County.

Ervin is a registered sex offender from Illinois and admitted to residing in Covington County for approximately a month. According to the Illinois Sex Offender Information registry, Ervin was convicted of criminal sex abuse, and his victim was 14. He was 32 at the time of the offense, according to Illinois State Police records.

Alabama Law requires sexual offenders to immediately report to the sheriff’s office to register upon entering the state to establish a residence.

Sheriff Turman said, “Deputy Beth Johnson is a go-getter and eager to learn. Most of all she is a great shepherd that keeps watch over her community. The CCSD will remain devoted to ensuring our community can feel safe.”
