FIGHTING TO THE FINISH: Lady Saints rally in game 2 to split series

The LBWCC Lady Saints split games with the Marion Military Lady Tigers in Wednesday softball action in Andalusia.

GAME ONE

MARION 11,

LBWCC 3

Marion Military Lady Tigers took advantage of timely hits to knock off the LBWCC Lady Saints 11-3 in the first game of the series.

Whitney Edgecomb started the game off with a single to Lady Saints’ left fielder Lainey Wells.

Edgecomb moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt and then came around to score off of an error by the Lady Saints.

The Lady Saints then got a ground ball out to Lydia Dillard at shortstop for the second out of the inning.

Marion Military added two more runs with a two-out double.

In the bottom of the first inning, Loryn Prayter ripped a line drive, but it was snagged by the Lady Tigers’ second baseman for the first out of the inning.

Anna Vaughn singled with two outs in the inning, but the Lady Saints were unable to move her around to score.

Marion Military went up 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Wells got the bottom of the fourth inning started with a single back up the middle.

Vaughn reached first when she grounded into a fielder’s choice.

The Lady Saints loaded the bases with a single from Millie Manring.

Lindsey Fox then put the Lady Saints on the board with a double that scored a pair of runs.

At the end of fourth inning, the Lady Saints trailed 8-3.

Marion Military added three runs in the top of the fifth inning to finish off the scoring.

GAME TWO

LBWCC 6,

MARION 5

In the final game of the day, the Lady Saints rallied late for a 6-5 win.

LBWCC went up early in the second game when Manring drove a double into center that allowed Wells to come around to score.

The score remained 1-0 until Marion Military tied the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

Manring reached second off of an error to start the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Cassidy Storia came in to pinch run for Manring.

Fox followed with a single to center that allowed Storia to come around to score the go-ahead run.

Natalie Aplin reached on a fielder’s choice and then came around to score on an error off of the bat of Nickole Page.

Alexus Griffin followed with a two-out double that put the Lady Saints up 4-1.

Marion Military came clawing back in the top of the fifth inning.

After starting the inning with a hit batter, the Lady Tigers strung together a pair of singles to bring the score to 4-2.

The Lady Saints looked like they might get out of the inning with minor damage after getting back-to-back groundouts, but the Lady Tigers picked up a walk and then a double to tie the game 4-4.

Marion Military added a run in the top of the sixth inning to go up 5-4.

Aplin started off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single and moved to second on a one-out single from Griffin.

Kailah Stocker came in to run for Aplin and she tied the game when she scored off of an error.

The Lady Saints took advantage of another error as Griffin came around to score to give LBWCC a 6-5 lead heading into the final frame.

LBWCC held off the Lady Tigers to come away with a 6-5 victory.
