The South Alabama Regional Airport recently bid its fuel government fuel contract , SARA Executive Director Jed Blackwell told board members Tuesday.

“We rebid this every three years,” he said. “You will remember we were the first to do hot refueling, which is putting fuel in the helicopter while it’s running. It has expanded to other airports, be we are still the top one.”

The contract states how much above actual fuel costs the military will pay for fuel, Blackwell said. The current contract increased form $1.15 per gallon to $1.22 per gallon. He estimated the airport will sell 3.6 million gallons of fuel during the life of the contract.
