Teachers and administrators in the Opp City Schools system will start the 2019-20 school year in July with a week of in-service, and students will start to school Monday, August 5.

The Board of Education approved the calendar Tuesday night. Starting and ending dates for the 2019-2020 year are the same for Opp and Andalusia City Schools.

Other dates to note are:

• July 29-Aug. 2 – Teacher in-service

• Aug. 5 – First day of school

• Sept. 2 – Labor Day

• Oct. 11 – Homecoming

• Oct. 14 – Columbus Day

• Oct. 15 – Fall holiday

• Nov. 11 – Veterans Day

• Nov. 25-29 – Thanksgiving holidays/Fall break

• Dec. 20-Jan. 2 – Christmas break

• Jan. 3 – Teacher In-service

• Jan. 6 – Students return from Christmas break.

• Jan. 20 – MLK Day

• Feb. 14 – Winter holiday

• Feb. 17 – President’s day

• March 23-27 – Spring break

• April 17 – Spring holiday

• May 21 – Last day of school for students

• May 22 – Teacher in-service.

In other business, the board spent time in closed session related to a student disciplinary action. No action was taken following the closed session.
