The Andalusia City Council on Tuesday approved a policy change that shortens the probationary period of police officers hired by the city.

At present, all new officers have a 12-month probationary period. However, the policy was amended to state that officers and firefighters who are certified when hired will spend six months on probation, while uncertified officers will spend 10 months on probation, including the time they are in training at the police academy.
