LEVI “PAT” THOMPSON

Mr. Levi “Pat” Thompson, 92, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., March 19, 2019, at his residence.

He was born in River Falls, on October 23, 1926, to John Walter Thompson and Pauline “Sweet” Simmons Thompson. The Thompson family moved to Dozier when Pat was very young and it was there he grew up and attended school. The town of Dozier held a special place in his heart until the end. He married Vonceil Rabren on Sept. 2, 1944, and the two were married for 68 years until her death in December 2012. He was a devoted husband to her. As their 50th anniversary was approaching in 1994, Pat contacted many of the merchants in town to change the lettering on their signs to read “Happy Anniversary Vonceil and Pat Thompson.” For several days, if you drove down East Three Notch Street and other parts of town, you saw those signs.

Pat was a familiar face in Andalusia. he worked at Foreman Funeral Home for 64 years, having started in 1949 when the funeral home was located on South Three Notch Street. For 17 of those years, he and Vonceil served as hosts to families and the public when visitations were held at the funeral home. He was also a faithful member of the Stanley Avenue Church of Christ where he served as treasurer for many, many years. He was a dignified Southern gentleman who had great wisdom and knew how to handle most situations with diplomacy, a smile, and a handshake.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., March 23, 2019, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Luke Moyer and Ben May officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday at Foreman Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Magnolia Cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Jerry Dunaway of East Brewton, AL, Suzanne and Johnny Fairley of Andalusia; his grandchildren, Ryan and Chanda Dunaway of Grant, AL, Jeremy and Amber Dunaway of Brewton, Erin and John Stephens of East Brewton, Sam Fairley of New Orleans; great-grandchildren, Analyssa, Anabeth, Analeaha, Anasophia Dunaway, Hannah, Gracie, Emma, and Levi Dunaway, Will and Natalie Stephens with one great grandchild on the way; and one sister, Patricia Freeman of Luverne, AL.
