Opp Mayor Becky Bracke said that this year’s Rattlesnake Rodeo was another big success with more than 10,000 people in attendance.

“The turnout was fantastic,” Bracke said. “The weather was absolutely beautiful. I think the weather was the best it has been during the rodeo it has ever been.”

Bracke said that the weather and advertising were the determining factors for the massive crowd.

“I think the weather was one of the main reasons,” Bracke said. “I also think that the rodeo committee pushed for more advertising and vendors. We had a lot more advertising with T.V. stations and they would actually take the snakes to the T.V. stations and show them and I think that got people interested.”

The crowd liked this  year’s entertainment, too.

“I think people really enjoyed the entertainment this year,” Bracke said. “We had local entertainment during the day on Saturday, which people enjoyed, Slim and the Soulful Saints in the afternoon on Saturday and they were able to bring a new jazzy sound to the rodeo instead of the same old country, our local boy Martin McDaniel that everybody loves and then Tyler Farr to close us out on Saturday. On Sunday, Craig Morgan drew a pretty big crowd as well.”

Last year there were more people, Bracke said, but this year the rodeo did better financially.

She said that the entire weekend was glitch free and that they are already working on next year’s rodeo.

“I don’t think there was a single glitch that happened this weekend,” Bracke said. “It was that great. Now we start looking for entertainment for next year and that will start immediately.”
