Members of the Pilot Club of Andalusia will be busy during Easter week baking their specialty cakes for their third annual cake sale.
Club member Maggie Jones, who coordinates the event, said all club members participate in some way.
“We have some amazing bakers,” she said. “We were looking for a fundraiser idea of something to do in addition to our annual pancake breakfast. We knew there was a demand for specialty items at this time of the year, so this sounded perfect. It was the perfect opportunity for someone to grab a cake and have something special for Easter.”
This year, the club has added a Lemon Bundt Cake to its offerings of pound cake, red velvet cake, butternut cake, Italian cream cake, and seven-layer chocolate cake. The club also tries to accommodate special requests.
“These are all freshly-made, homemade cakes,” Jones said. “Our bakers have been tweaking the recipes and the cakes should be better than ever.”
Melissa King and Sheila Bulger lead the baking effort, and Jones said they literally cook from 7 until 7 in the Chamber of Commerce kitchen, all week long.
“Melissa does a good job of getting all of the ingredients locally,” Jones said.
The club expects to sell more than 200 cakes this year. Orders can be placed by calling Jones at the Chamber, 332-222-2030, King at 334-504-1469, or from any Pilot member.
The cakes are packaged with cards that make it easy to use them as an Easter gift or hostess gift.
Cakes are $25 each.
