Should be done by graduation, but Plan B, C in place

Barring anything unforeseen, Andalusia High School’s auditorium should be completed in time of graduation, Superintendent Ted Watson told board members Monday.

Watson said the auditorium construction should be down to a punch list next week, and ready for inspection by May 9. Graduation is May 24.

Meanwhile, the high school has two fallback plans, he said.

“Plan Be would be to go to First Baptist Church,” he said. “They have agreed that the would set up chairs for kids on the stage, and they can accommodate about 800 people.

“Plan C would be to go to the Kiwanis building again,” Watson said.

The board also agreed to buy five lots adjacent to the stadium parking lot, at a price of $10,000 each, for possible future expansion.

In other business, the board:

• Accepted the resignation of Jaxson Lee, AJHS/AHS special ed paraprofessional, effective May 24.

• Accepted the retirement resignations of Kathy Jones, AES special ed paraprofessional, and Dawn Thompson, AHS English teacher, effective May 24.

• Hired Barbara Bates as an AES special ed paraprofessional replacing Jones, effective July 29.

• Hired Starla Jones as an AHS math teacher. She is certified to teach sixth through twelfth grades, and also has a degree in music. She currently works in Crenshaw County.

• Moved Vicki Gibson from cafeteria manager at AHS to cafeteria worker at AES, and moved Marcie Watson from cafeteria worker at AES to cafeteria manager at AHS, effective July 29.

• Granted a leave of absence to Allison Foshee, science teacher at AHS.

• Granted a Leave of Absence to Leigh Anne O’Neal, pre-K paraprofessional, so that she can complete an internship.
