It’s still severe weather season in Alabama, and the Covington County area could be in store for a sample on Thursday afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service’s Wednesday afternoon briefing, there is an enhanced risk of severe weather across the entire area.

“Our confidence is increasing on the severe weather threat,” the NWS said.

“A squall line will develop over souther Mississippi/southeast Louisiana and move across our region late Thursday afternoon through Thursday night. Damaging winds in excess of 70 miles per hour are possible as well as embedded tornadoes.”

The NWS said it cannot rule out the possibility of a storng tornado. The storm system also is expected to bring one to three inches of rain.
