AHS eliminates UMS-Wright

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs kept their hopes alive as they split games to open up the 2019 AHSAA Class 4A South Regional tournament on Thursday in Gulf Shores.

DALE COUNTY 10, ANDALUSIA 0

In the opening game of the day, the Lady Bulldogs fell 10-0 to the Dale County Lady Warriors.

Dale County opened up the game strong and built an 8-0 lead early.

Andalusia’s Erin Riley reached base in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Lady Bulldogs were unable to move her past first base.

In the top of the fifth inning, Dale County tacked on two more runs to give them a 10-0 lead.

M.K. Salter drew a one-out walk for the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Andalusia was unable to move her.

Dale County held on to knock off the Lady Bulldogs 10-0.

ANDALUSIA 7,

UMS-WRIGHT 0

The Lady Bulldogs came charging out of the gate in game two as they eliminated UMS-Wright with a 7-0 victory.

Arnett got the first batter she faced to line out to right field for the first out of the game.

The next batter drew a walk, but Chloe Mikel threw her out attempting to steal second.

Salter picked up a single to start the bottom of the first inning and then moved to third on bunt from Sydney Ray.

Salter attempted to come home, but was tagged out at the plate.

In the top of the second inning, Arnett struck out the side.

Raygen Clarke singled to start the bottom of the second inning, but the Lady Bulldogs were unable to move her around so score.

In the bottom of the third inning, Ray doubled with one-out in the inning.

Arnett reached off of a fielder’s choice and moved to second on single from Mikel.

Riley reached off of an error and then a single from Clarke put the Lady Bulldogs up 2-0.

The Lady Bulldogs tacked on two more runs off of an Arnett hit in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Andalusia’s lead increased to 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Lady Bulldogs held off UMS-Wright in the final innings to earn a 7-0 victory.
