Florala High School Salutatorian Morgan Kilpatrick’s said her motivation to earn the honor was born of a desire to prove that it doesn’t matter where a person comes from, she can accomplish anything.
“I wanted to accomplish something for my family,” Kilpatrick said. “And prove that it doesn’t matter who your parents are or if they even finished high school or not.”
Kilpatrick said that valedictorian Taylor Mount has not always been her competition.
“Up until ninth grade, I competed with a boy named Tristan who moved away,” Kilpatrick said. “After he moved, Taylor took his place.”
At FHS, Kilpatrick was involved in basketball, softball, band, FCCLA, FCS, Key Club, Student Government Association, Mu Alpha Theta, Peer Helpers and Beta Club.
She said that her role models are her mom, uncle, Mickey Richardson, her Mimi and Dawanna Laird.
Outside of the classroom, Kilpatrick works at Dollar General and Pizza Express and likes to spend time with her family and friends.
Kilpatrick plans to attend LBW Community College to earn her associate’s degree in scie2nce and then transfer to a four-year university to earn her bachelor’s degree in science and attend medical school to become an emergency room physician.
She is the daughter of Yvonna and Jeffrey Kilpatrick and the granddaughter of Michael and Dawanna Laird, Jan and Glenene Edmondson and Quinton Kilpatrick.
