Council considers allowing alcohol in Hardin Center

The Opp City Council is considering allowing for alcohol to be consumed at the Hardin Street Activity Center.

Opp Mayor Becky Bracke said that they are going to wait to take action so they can hear the thoughts of the citizens of District Four in Opp.

“A lot of people have voiced their opinions of bringing alcohol to the Hardin Street Activity Center,” Bracke said. “Mostly so they can host wedding receptions and things like that and have alcohol like at the Depot.”

The ordinance states that it shall be lawful for any person to consume alcoholic beverages within the city owned structure known as the Hardin Street Activity Center for a private event, provided that all regulations and laws are followed. It shall be understood that grounds immediate to the Harden Street Activity Center, which means within 70 feet of the building, but does not include any city right of way, street, other building or sidewalk.

The council also:

• Declared 702 Maude Avenue a nuisance.

• Agreed to give Diane Bobo an extended period of time to make her home on 102 N. Walker Street not a nuisance.
